Con la vittoria al Rally di Monte Carlo del 1972, la Lancia Fulvia Coupé 1,6 HF ha avvicinato e appassionato gli italiani ai rally, posando i primi mattoni di un grandioso castello di vittorie firmate Lancia. Iniziato con la Fulvia e proseguito con Stratos, Rally 037, Delta S4 per poi culminare nei record della Delta Gruppo A.

With its victory at the 1972 Monte Carlo Rally, the Lancia Fulvia Coupé 1.6 HF brought Italians closer to and passionate about rallies, laying the first bricks of a grandiose castle of victories signed by Lancia. It started with the Fulvia and continued with Stratos, Rally 037, Delta S4 and then culminated in the records of the Delta Group A.

La Fulvia Coupé nasce due anni dopo dal disegno di Piero Castagnero. L'allora responsabile del Centro Stile Lancia si ispira alle forme dei motoscafi Riva, e disegna una elegante berlinetta sportiva a 2 posti più 2  con un abitacolo luminoso, caratterizzato da ampie vetrature e da parabrezza e lunotto molto più inclinati rispetto alla versione berlina. La prima Fulvia Coupé monta un 4 cilindri di 1216 cm3 da 80 cavalli, che presto aumenta nella cilindrata a 1.3 e poi a 1.6 litri. L’eleganza e la classe che contraddistinguono questo modello  non impediscono alla “Squadra Corse HF Lancia” di impiegarla nelle competizioni, in particolare nei rally.

The Fulvia Coupé was born two years later from the design of Piero Castagnero. The then head of the Lancia Style Center was inspired by the shapes of Riva motorboats, and designed an elegant 2-plus-2-seater sports sedan with a bright interior, characterized by large windows and a much more inclined windscreen and rear window than the sedan version. The first Fulvia Coupé was fitted with a 1216 cm3 4-cylinder producing 80 horsepower, which soon increased in displacement to 1.3 and then to 1.6 litres. The elegance and class that distinguish this model do not prevent the "HF Lancia Racing Team" from using it in competitions, particularly in rallies.

La sigla HF significa High Fidelity, cioè alta fedeltà. Dopo i grandi successi nelle competizioni ottenuti da Gianni Lancia negli anni Cinquanta, la scuderia sportiva Lancia rinasce nel febbraio del 1963 quasi come un’iniziativa privata di fedeli appassionati del Marchio torinese, perché l’approccio ingegneristico di Fessia non è favorevole alle competizioni. È Cesare Fiorio, pilota e  figlio dell'allora direttore della comunicazione Lancia Sandro, ad animare la Squadra Corse. Il giovane Cesare, direttore sportivo della scuderia, diventerà negli anni seguenti l’artefice dei grandi successi di Lancia, Fiat e Abarth nei campionati rally ed endurance, e alla fine degli anni Ottanta prenderà il timone del team di F1 della Ferrari.

The acronym HF stands for High Fidelity. After the great successes in competitions achieved by Gianni Lancia in the 1950s, the Lancia sports team was reborn in February 1963 almost as a private initiative of loyal enthusiasts of the Turin brand, because Fessia's engineering approach was not conducive to competitions. It is Cesare Fiorio, driver and son of the then Lancia communications director Sandro, who animates the Squadra Corse. The young Cesare, sporting director of the team, would become the architect of the great successes of Lancia, Fiat and Abarth in the rally and endurance championships in the following years, and at the end of the 1980s he would take the helm of the Ferrari F1 team.
